Working in Schools and Childcare Centres
Behaviour Support and Therapy have very significant experience supporting clients in schools and childcare centres in the public and independent sectors.
This typically involves the development of Positive Behaviour Support Plans designed in collaboration with the client’s carers and educators. This ensures that the strategies capture the intimate knowledge of carers and the professional experience of educators. With a shared focus on growth and progress, we see significant improvements in behavioural presentations.
Because prevention is always the best cure, we work with carers and educators to identify the function or cause of challenging behaviours. By understanding the function of behaviour, we are able to identify strategies to avoid situations that make challenging behaviours more likely, but also to address the underlying challenges being experienced by the client.
In some circumstances, we become involved when there have been challenges for the client, including where they may have been excluded (suspended or expelled). In these circumstances, we work hard with the client, carers and school to identify how to promote repair and growth through reengagement with education.
We are also regularly invited into schools to assist with training staff [link to Providing behaviour consultancy to schools] ] in the Positive Behaviour Support Plans and strategies that we have developed. In our experience, by assisting and upskilling those around the client, we can enhance the effectiveness of behavioural support.
